Job Summary

O-NET is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer with solid technical knowledge of IP networks and infrastructure.  As a vital member of our technology team, you will lead the delivery of high quality fibre optic (FTTP) based internet, television broadcasting (IPTV), and voice service to our clients.  You will be responsible for strategic network planning, implementation, and operation of our routing, switching, security, and supporting IT environment.


  • Progressive experience in building and maintaining networks, including hands-on experience with high-availability, high-performance redundant infrastructures.
  • Experience with Firewall configuration and management.
  • Advanced knowledge of Threat Protection, URL Filtering, SSL decryption, IPsec VPN Tunnels, NAT and PBF/PBR.
  • Proven experience in Data Center Routing and Switching (Cisco, Nokia,and Juniper).
  • LAN/WAN routing and Layer 2 & 3 switching with a strong understanding of BGP.
  • Thorough knowledge of network hardware, software, OSI Layer1-7 protocols and services, TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, IPSec, QoS, and SSL.
  • Working knowledge of FTTP GPON/XGSPON/NGPON technologies would be an asset.
  • Experience with network and application monitoring tools.
  • Good working knowledge of network security tools and technologies (firewalls, access control, encryption, multifactor authentication and IDS/IPS).
  • Advanced problem solving and troubleshooting skills, packet capture, protocol analysis and performance diagnostics.
  • Experience and working knowledge of multicast services to support our IPTV platforms.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with audiences of various levels and backgrounds, both verbally and in written form.
  • Strong work ethic, attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and manage priorities in a fast-paced environment


Primary Responsibilities

  • In this role, the Network Engineer will design and implement network solutions according to business requirements, interact with vendors, and collaborate with teams throughout the organization.
  • The Network engineer will also perform network installation, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting for a variety of networking devices. This includes routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, etc.
  • Implement local and regional IP networks for LAN, WAN and telecommunications environments.
  • Ensure performance and availability of production network infrastructure and telecommunications services.
  • Provide expertise, technical guidance and support to fellow production operations team members.
  • Design, deploy and maintain network management, monitoring, caching and load balancing solutions.
  • Develop and maintain operational documentation and sensible infrastructure performance metrics.
  • Interact with vendors and service providers; evaluate and recommend upgrades and new technologies.
  • Ability to maintain accurate documentation and adhere to change management principles.



  • Diploma/Certificate in Computer Science or related discipline or equivalent in work experience.
  • 8+ years of experience with complex routing/switch networks.
  • Certified in one or more of the following CCNP and/or JNCIP preferred.


Working Conditions

O-NET’s core network is located in datacentre facilities in Olds, AB and Calgary, AB.  The role will be flexible to work remotely and onsite when required to fulfill specific hands-on needs.  Candidate must be fully immunized against covid-19 per company policy.
